Information

Northbank Demolition Company undertook the asbestos removal, mechanical demolition, concrete crushing and site clearance of the Old County Offices and Police Station at Walton Street, Aylesbury, Bucks. The site sits on the corner of Walton Street/Exchange Street which are both busy streets serving Aylesbury town centre. The other two sides of the site were occupied by various businesses including a large cinema, restaurants, Council offices and the County Court.

Running the full length of the east side of the site is a listed wall and this wall was in a very bad state of repair and required a temporary support system installing to prevent any further damage. The listed wall was subject to inspection by the Council’s Archaeological Officer during the works and in addition a well was uncovered along with remnants of foundations to a wall which required segregating from the works by forming an exclusion zone for subsequent inspection by the Council’s Archaeological Officer. Northbank were responsible for on site liaison with the Archaeological Officer, ensuring that areas of interest were clearly segregated and excluded from disturbance by the demolition works and the subsequent covering up of works in an agreed manner.
