Magnadata Group, also known as Magnadata International, is a specialised printing company in Boston, Lincolnshire. Since 2010 it has had the national contract for producing the UK’s train tickets. It is one of the main companies in Europe that can produce magnetic ID cards for a company’s workforce. Northbank Demolition Company were employed by CWC Group to carry out the extensive asbestos removal and the demolition of the former Magandata Factory sites. The buildings were spread over two sites which totalled nearly 40acres. Prior to works commencement Northbank commissioned the live service disconnections within some of the buildings and service diversions in others.
The site was then set up securely with demolition exclusion zones and safety signage. The project commenced with the removal of circa 12,500m2 of licensable asbestos containing materials under fully controlled conditions using HSE approved techniques. Followed by the complete soft strip to all buildings contained within the two sites.
The former water tower was fully scaffolded and dismantled using hand demolition techniques in a careful manner due to its close proximity to domestic dwellings. Remote demolition was carried out to the remaining buildings and structures using 360 excavators and high reach. All soft strip waste materials were segregated into appropriate skips and sent to recycling facilities. The majority of the brick and concrete arisings however were crushed on site to a specification of 6F2 and re‐used on site as a sub‐base. The main management focus of this contract was the maintenance of high quality fully managed service delivery, customer satisfaction and ensuring continuous improvement. Therefore, the same management team were appointed throughout the project, weekly progress meetings were carried out and weekly site audits were undertaken by the Contract Manager to ensure the project was complete on time and to budget.
