Emergency Demolition Works Complete in Bury, Greater Manchester

New Project Award – Horsham
November 17, 2014

After a major fire in 3 large industrial units on Woodford Industrial Estate, Alston St, Bury, Greater Manchester. We were called in by the council to make the buildings safe.

The fire destroyed the buildings and everything in them. the units were over 300m long and were at a point of collapse. Once on site Friday morning we assessed the damage with Building Control, Insurance Adjusters and Greater Manchester Fire. We advised that we could save one of the buildings by adding structural scaffold to prop the roof up, this was completed prior to demolition works.

We had a team of men putting fencing around the site and had a machine on site Friday ready to start demolishing the buildings, initial discussions with the council and insurers were made to advise how we will complete the works which would cause no damage to joining businesses.

Once demolition works commenced we could not stop as the buildings were in a critical state of collapse. starting at the front end we systematically worked our way into the 2 units removing brickwork, roof trusses and beams. working with the fire brigade we removed the contents in areas there were still fires so the fire brigade could put these spots out.

All works were completed without any disturbance or damage to other businesses.
